Why is it called the Internet of Things?

The term Internet of Things was coined by Kevin Ashton in 1999. Stemming from Kevin Ashton’s experience with RFID, the term Internet of Things originally described the concept of tagging every object in a person’s life with machine readable codes. This would allow computers to easily manage and inventory all of these things. The term IoT today has evolved to a much broader prospect. It now encompasses ubiquitous connectivity, devices, sensors, analytics, machine learning, and many other technologies.

What is an IoT solution?

An IoT solution is a combination of devices or other data sources, outfitted with sensors and internet connected hardware to securely report information back to an IoT platform. This information is often a physical metric which can help users answer a question or solve a specific problem.

What is an IoT cloud platform?

An IoT platform provides users with one or more of these key elements — visualization tools, data security features, a workflow engine and a custom user interface to utilize the information collected from devices and other data sources in the field. Cloud platforms are based in the cloud and can be accessed from anywhere.

What is an Application Enablement Platform?

An application enablement platform is an IoT platform that provides developers with the tools to quickly build a working application and user interface with very little code. AEPs allow organizations to scale faster and gain value from IoT investments faster by removing technology hurdles.

What is edge computing in IoT?

Edge computing is a method which enables devices to process data at or near where it is collected instead of sending it to a data center or to the cloud. Edge computing is used to achieve local optimized control, operate in spite of intermittent connectivity or immediately filter data, sending only what is necessary to the cloud.

What is industrial equipment monitoring?

Industrial equipment monitoring uses a network of connected sensors - either native to a piece of equipment or retrofitted - to inform owners/operators of a machine’s output, component conditions, need for service or impending failure. Industrial equipment monitoring is an IoT solution which can utilize an IoT platform to unify disparate data and enable decision makers to respond to real-time data.

What is condition-based maintenance?

Condition-based maintenance or CBM is a method of proactive maintenance which enables owners to respond to conditions only when a need arises. Conditions of machine components are monitored using IoT (sensors, a network connection and gateways).

What is predictive maintenance?

Predictive maintenance refers to a method of maintenance created using IoT that relies on data from a combination of sources including machine components and other indicators which inform an owner/operator of the items requiring attention before any service interruption occurs. Predictive maintenance often requires a large supply of historical data in order to function appropriately.

Why are there often such poor security practices in IoT products?

Mostly lack of devotion and understanding of good security protocols. OEMs, engineers and developers are usually focused on making sure the product works and is launched on schedule, rather than making sure these devices are secure. In order to compete in the market, many of these products are designed with an emphasis on keeping the cost as low as possible. Stronger security implementation isn't prioritized properly, because it typically doesn't reduce the cost of producing a product. Many IoT devices lack the computing power of a desktop or laptop computer, or other higher-end devices, which makes it difficult to implement strong security.

How long will the installation take?

The installation takes less that 5 minuts and can be carried out during a routine service visit.

How long does the delivery take?

The delivery time is only a few days depending on you local service provider. Schedule a visit with your trusted service provider and he or she can install the monitoring solution in a few minutes.

Do I have to buy the product?

No, you don't buy the product. You sign up for a subscription and select if you want to pay per month or yearly. If you choose to pay a yearly subscription, you get one month free every year.

How do I purchase a subscription?

You have two options. You can buy subscription for Pharmaceutical units directly on our website. If you want Automatic Temperature Logging for your cooler or freezer on which you already have a service contract, then you need to call your local service provider and order it through them.

How big is the hardware?

The hardware is only a small printed circuit board (PCB) that is 7x7 cm, in a small enclosure.

Do I have to hire an installer?

If you have your own maintenance department, you don't have to hire a specialist to perform the installation.

Where is data stored and for how long?

All data is stored in a Microsoft Datacenter geographically closest to you. Microsoft have datacenters all over the world. The data is protected and encrypted making sure that it is rubbish if anyone else but you look at it.

Which security protocols are used?

We are sending data using MQTT and SSL encrypted with x.509 certificates. Only the device can contact the Internet and it is impossible to contact it from the Internet.

Are temperatures transmitted in real time?

Yes, the temperature is measured once a minute, and every 15 minute the temperature data is send to our cloud solution, where we autogenerate the audit reporting for you.

How is the hardware delivered?

The hardware is delivered ready for installation together with installation manuals, sensors and wires.

How long is I bound to a contract?

The contract have a minimum period of 12 months. You don't have to give us a notice before stopping the subscription. After one year you can cancel the subscription with a one day notice. Once the month finishes the subscription ends.

From which quantity do you deliver?

We are delivering from 1 to many. This means that if you only need one, that is what you order.

Are also delivered to private?

Sorry but currently we are not delivering to private customers. But this is not something that is carved in stone. Many things can happen..

Which temperatures and temperature ranges are measurable?

We are measuring and logging temperature from -200 degrees celsius up to +100 degree celsius.

How fast does the message reach about a sudden fluctuation?

The maximum time period is one minute. As soon as our hardware detects a malfunction, it will send a message to the cloud, and then it will be relayed to yoour mobile phone and a mail will also be send to you.

What happens if my hardware breaks down?

If you have a device that malfunction, we will notice it at once and send you a replacement unit at once.
